TheList: It's time for Blossom
How to wear 90s tv star - Blossom Russo's - wardrobe this spring?
Comes spring. Comes the need to do some old school (digital) window shopping. While trying to stay strong and constantly reminding myself of my ethics, I’m drooling away looking at all those cool new items, styles and looks. What should I get? Want do I want? What surprises me?!
While doing so all these cliche spring words like ‘bloom’ pop into my head, I smell the soft pink blossom and suddenly hear myself mumble: “Blossom is in the air. Nope, no blossom. Overheard that one.”
It’s me coming up with a title for the upcoming Sustainable Shopping Letter. I love doing so (still proud of mid Covids’ Pandemic at the Disco and Not so Basic Basics), but this one is a though cookie. How to stay away from those spring cliche’s
Still, I save a super nice straight legged flower embroidered denim. A collab from Mud Jeans and Van Gogh Museum. Followed by a classic white shirt. But when my eyes fall on a velvet 90s style hat with flower I can’t help hear blossom again. Yet in a completely different sense. It’s Blossom Russo from the early 90s coming-of-age namesake tv shows.
And then the penny drops, my whole spring wardrobe vibes are super Blossom (as in Russo) inspired. Didn't saw that one coming. But I'm really getting into it. And suddenly see myself re-watching the show on Youtube.
While I decide to ignore those knee pads as a fashion accessory, I can see myself wearing that oversized knit on floral, floppy mini skirt. As does that whole masculine look of hers (those vests - j'adore!) and even colourful, printed denim does it for me.
What are your thoughts on Blossom Russo as a style icon?

Sustainable Shopping Letter – It’s time for blossom
Fall flower days are over. It’s spring time baby. Blossom!
1 - Flower printed linen pants by Valentina Karnoubi € 370
Another adorned look by Blossom Russo (the main character in - well you guess - Blossom) printed overalls. I took a spin on that trend when I fell madly for the flower collection by romantic fashion designer from Buenos Aires Valentina Karnoubi. Kaia pants, decorated with pink faux feathers. Comes with a matching loose-fit jacket and there even is a dress, incl faux feathers. J’adore!
2 - Soft yellow spectacles by Bonnie Clyde LA €140
Why go unnoticed?! These spring coloured spectacles are made with biodegradable Cotton Acetate by LA based eyewear brand.
3 - Slim fit ‘Circus’ skirt by Valentina Karnoubi €225
Also rom the flower printed linen collection from Valentina Karnoubi, the cute slim fit circus skirt. Comes with matching blouse.
4 - White rectangular sunglasses by Bonnie Clyde LA €148
Not so basic basics sunglasses. They give a subtle edge. Made from biodegredable Cotton Acetate by LA based eyewear brand.
5 - Crisp white shirt by Thinking Mu €129
My style trick, pair your ‘out of the ordinary’ item with basics and you can wear them on a daily base. Like this oversized white hemp blouse by Thinking Mu. Also really like this slightly boxy cotton cut one or this one from organic poplin cotton by Asket.
6 - Van Gogh & Mud Jeans straight fit flower denim €189,95
If Mud Jeans and Vincent van Gogh made a baby….. Straight fit, organic and recycled cotton denim with embroidered flowers. The perfect combination of tough and cute.
7 - Herringbone pants and vest by Arnsdorf €348 & vest €248
To underline her clever character she turned to men’s wear-inspired looks. While most likely (considering the rise of femininity) a look that’s slowly fading, it’s still here and looking darn good. Herringbone pants by Arnsdorf with matching vest. Like the idea but want it a bit more feminine, wear this body suit with tailored pants. It’s also super hot!
8 - Velvet bucket hat ‘Maria’ by Pardo Hats €180
The iconic ‘90s girl floppy hat, adorned with flower. Velvet hand-made-to-order in Barcalona by Pardo Hats - still the coolest hat brand in town.
9 - The perfect white T-shirt by Akset €40
To pair down anything flowery, decorated with feathers or just about anything else bold. Put on a white T-shirt. My style rule is busy on the bottom, basic at the top. Favourites are the heavier weight organic cotton ones from Signe or this organic cotton slightly boxy cut one from Asket. Also feel like trying out this one from Kind Studio.
10 - Floral handkerchief dress from Puppets and Puppets €490
Asymmetrical floral slip dress from the e brand that cracked the cool girl code.
11 - Girly flower skirt by The Reformation €125
Blossom would pair something girly with flowers with something masculine. And so would I. The Reformation has a wide variety of short, midi and long (flower) skirts. All very feminine.
12 - Black leather ‘Ruth’ loafers by Aeyde €345
The classic loafers have never been this hot. Well not for a few decades or so. Pair them with knee socks if you dare.
13 - Poppy red tailored pants and jacket by Kjinsen €445 and €695
Another pant suits, but make it bright. A classic cut suit in wool, silk, cashmere mix. Poppy pants and matching jacket Available at Reve-en-Vert.
14 - Ceramic bracelet by Tsvite Teren €75
Ending on a cute note, with this ceramic bracelet made by Ukrenian Tsvite Teren. Order via her Instagram account.
