It’s funny how a single life event can change the course of your entire wardrobe. Like when you (suddenly) put on or loose a lot of weight, fall in love with a pieces of clothing that’s totally not aligned with your current style or when you start your sustainable fashion quest. I’ve been there all.
It happened to me during my pregnancy with Alfie in 2017. I gained 25+ kg. There’s a plus because I stopped weighing myself after 8 months. In the end I was pregnant for 9,5 months. You do the math!
Before then I was a huge denim junkie. It was my daily uniform; from casual weekend day to office wear and from date night to the club. My collection (before the start of my sustainable fashion in quest in 2012) was huge. A self-made bleached denim jacket, Lauren Hill (link) style skirts, denim dresses, overalls and off course jeans in all the colors and styles of the rainbow.
But then pregnancy hit me and I quickly had to switch to stretchy dresses and floppy pants.
With my laziness of getting back in shape it took me 2,5 years to (sort off) fit back into my favorite pair of jeans. I found them too tight (your body will never be the same after giving birth). Skinny jeans were officially out of fashion to me.
It wasn’t until recently they found back their way into my wardrobe. My desire for comfy & sturdy pants in combination with my sustainable fashion quest brought me back to Mud Jeans.
A Dutch B-Corp internationally renowned and on many ‘example fashion brands’ list for making circular denim with recycled + organic cotton. Which can be - due their ‘lease a jeans’ program - recycled back into a new pair.
This means: no product waste and 92% less water consumption.
They say they dream of a world without waste. And I love a brand that puts their money where their mouth is.
Ever since the first time I heard about them (in 2016) they increased the amount the of recycled cotton that goes into one pair of jeans, started using natural dyes, became more transparent and - surely not less important when it comes to clothes - more fashionable.
These last couple of years they added a few styles that I just had to add to my wardrobe. Especially considering their lease program they became the perfect addition to my van-life wardrobe.
Nature and adventure lovers as Mud Jeans is too, they totally fell for our road trip adventures and interviewed me for this super sweet article.
Have a read here and enjoy some of the picture that didn’t make it into the article but are just too good not to share.

“That desire to reconnect with my natural loving state (aren’t we all born like that?!) is intertwined with my belief that we should all take responsibility for our own behavior, emotions, thoughts, actions and future.”
